Our History

Originally established as an add-on to a barber shop Stuarts Leather and Travel Goods has now been trading for over 40 years. Many customers have recalled that Mr Antonio Giapalma ran his barbering business in the rear of 12 Church Gate, whilst the owner, Mr. Sam Roth established a retail outlet at the front of the premises specialising in leather goods. Following the retirement of Mr. Roth, the business changed ownership. Tony Attenborough, having been a regular visitor in his role of hairdressing wholesaler became the new owner in 1982 along with his partner, Audrey Webb. They already owned a successful leather goods outlet on Queens Roads, Leicester (Double 'A' (Leicester) Ltd).

In 1984 the decision was made to sell the Leicester branch as the Loughborough shop showed the greater potential. The retirement of Mr. Giapalma in 1995 saw the end of an era. This gave the owners the opportunity to concentrate solely on the retail of luggage and leather goods.

Audrey's daughter, Tracey had begun helping at her mum's shop on Saturdays as a 16 year old in 1978. 6 years later, Tracey became a partner in the business. Shortly after this Tracey committed to working full time. A popular figure, Tony retired at the age of 70. Many customers asked over Tony and recall fond memories of years gone by. In July 2015, Tony sadly passed away at the age of 86.

Since the business was first established, 43 years ago, Tracey now runs the company and has two welcoming and helpful members of staff, with over 60 years of combined experience in the trade.
